Sack Lake Hemlocks Conservation Area Hike and Lunch
Friday, September 8 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join North Lakeland Discovery Center staff, Northwoods Land Trust staff, and Sack Lake conservation easement landowner on a guided hike to explore old growth trees and wild lakes. The 2008 conservation easement on the property includes approximately 215 acres and over 1.5 miles of shoreline along 3 lakes. We will start the hike on the easement property and then walk onto the adjacent 129-acre Sack Lake Hemlocks Conservation Area owned by Northwoods Land Trust. The massive yellow birch and hemlock are remnants of the past and a key component of many old growth forests in northern Wisconsin. The state endangered pine marten is also known to frequent this area. Participants will be hiking approximately 4 miles on moderately difficult terrain utilizing a combination of trails and venturing off-trail as well. Following the hike, a lunch consisting of hot dogs, chips and refreshments will be provided. There is an outhouse facility located on this property.
Friday, 9 AM – 2 PM. Registration required by 9/6. Registered participants will be emailed more details about the trip but should plan on meeting at the Discovery Center at 9 AM to ride out to the trailhead in our van. Travel time to the trailhead is 50 mins. $45/Non-Member and $40/Member.
