Protect Our Waters: Freshwater Mussel Monitoring

Friday, August 18 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join us to uncover the importance of freshwater mussels in our Wisconsin lakes as we explore their importance in conservation, ecology, and major threats. Jesse Weinzinger, WDNR Conservation Biologist and coordinator of the WI mussel monitoring program, will teach you about common species found locally in the Northwoods and how to identify them. We will also learn survey and monitoring methods and then take a field trip to find mussel beds and practice surveying and identification, preparing you to continue this citizen science effort on your own in the future.

Come prepared to get wet and bring your lunch and snorkels. Canoes/PFDs will be provided if we choose to paddle. Meet at the Discovery Center. Friday, 10 AM – 3 PM.  Registration required by 8/15.   $30/Non-Member and $25/Member.
