Manitowish Waters Economic Development Survey PDF Print E-mail

The Manitowish Waters Planning Commission and Chamber of Commerce are interested in your opinion regarding economic development for Manitowish Waters.

Our Town offers so much in recreation for our seasonal residents and visitors.  We are challenging ourselves to provide a more attractive and broader base for our economy so we can offer a better employment environment for our residents.  Many of these residents work in the service businesses which are very dependant on seasons and weather conditions.  This creates the proverbial “feast or famine” environment.

In looking at economic development, we are balancing a number of factors including:

1.  Tourism/Outdoor Recreation is our top priority, and the main reason we all choose to live or spend our time here.

2.  We have transitioned from a primarily resort to a permanent and seasonal residential community, and we have fewer of the daily/weekly visitors that in the past used the local retail businesses and resort services.

3.  We want to identify businesses that will complement what we already have, and that will provide and grow employment opportunities for our labor pool.

Given the above, we are doing a number of surveys and analysis to develop an economic plan.  We would like the opportunity to engage with you over the coming months to get your input on a variety of topics.

If you would like to share your opinions and have a voice, we encourage you to go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Z5PFF5W and take a brief survey.  By doing so, we will also be able to share our progress with you.  Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,

Manitowish Waters Planning Commission

Phase III Fund-Raising Beginning PDF Print
Henry Bauers, President of Manitowish Waters Bike Trail, Inc. would like to announce that the funds necessary to proceed with Phase 2 of the Bike Trail extension have been procured. The 1.7 mile Phase 2 paved trail will extend from Red Feather Road to Clear Lake Road. Construction will begin as soon as the frost is out of the ground this spring, with some finishing touches also being completed on Phase 1. While these phases are being completed we are continuing our fund raising efforts to proceed with an additional 1.4 miles of paved trail from Clear Lake Road to the North Lakeland School and beyond. To date construction of these phases has been accomplished solely with private donations. Our ultimate long range goal is the connection to the Boulder Junction / Sayner trail system, with a scenic ride or walk across Hwy. “K” and areas beyond, making Manitowish Waters a trail system destination. The Manitowish Waters Bike Trail, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit that has been established for the sole purpose of raising funds for the development and maintenance of the Manitowish Waters bike trail system. All donations are tax deductible and can be sent to: Citizens Bank, Manitowish Waters Bike Trail Inc., P.O. Box 326, Manitowish Waters, WI 54545.

The Manitowish Waters Bike Trail Committee went through the grant process, thereafter determining that going the route of private funding greatly reduced the costs. The Manitowish Waters Bike Trail, Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit was established to provide a tax deductible opportunity for constituents to assist in the development of the community and its trail system.
