The Big Event Coordinator

The North Lakeland Discovery Center is seeking an event specific contracted position for coordinating “The Big Event”, held every Memorial Day Sunday at the Discovery Center facility.  This position would work in concert with the NLDC staff, particularly the executive Director, the Facilities Coordinator, and the Marketing and Membership Coordinator, and various committees associated with the event.

Duties include:

Procuring sponsors and donations – Handling registrations/ “Gesture” spreadsheets – Coordinating the Live and Silent – Auctions – Budget Development – Event Timeline and deadlines – Committee Coordination – Publicity and Marketing

hours are flexible and independent, and contract stipend is negotiable, depending on experience.

Membership and Marketing Coordinator  (Permanent, Full Time)

The Membership and Marketing Coordinator strives to engage and connect volunteers, members, businesses, as well as outside groups, in new and meaningful ways and within the guiding framework of enriching lives through the facilitation of connections among nature, people and community.  This position is also responsible for revenue generation as related to donor income goals, fundraising events, sponsor cultivation, marketing, promotion and public relations of the Discovery Center’s mission.

-Membership: (40%)  Responsible for developing an annual comprehensive membership/development plan, in collaboration with the Executive Director, with targeted goals, objectives, methods, quantifiable outcomes and timelines which will achieve budgeted goals. Communicates with potential donors, members and sponsors and maintains development files. Maintain fundraising database.

Marketing and Public Relations: (25%) Develop with the Executive Director and execute a comprehensive marketing plan that includes events, media relations, press releases, social networking, Annual Report, website, newsletters, and branding.

Fundraising and Membership Events (10%) Participate with contracted Events Coordinator in planning and executing fundraising and outreach events including the Big Event, Wine In the Woods, Annual Membership Dinner, and Voyageur Dinner. Manages the promotion of all events in association with Event Coordinator.

Capital Campaign (25%)In collaboration with the Executive Director and Capital Campaign Coordinator, assist with developing strategies and policies, donor prospects and database management, cultivation plan, and timetables.

Qualifications and Experience: at least a Bachelor’s degree in sales and marketing, public relations, or a related field.  At least 2 years fundraising and development or non-profit experience, coordinating events or fundraisers, various marketing and public communications techniques. Strong relationship skills, able to connect quickly and genuinely with diverse groups of people. Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
