It is a wonderful opportunity for people who are experiencing mild memory loss, cognitive impairment, or just want to keep memory skills active, have fun and share experiences with friends and neighbors.     Memory Café – Spring Fest:  What are the most exciting events of spring besides the snow melting?   They are the birds returning, leaves budding from trees, warm sunny days, and much more!  At this next Memory Café, we will talk about birds, what we love about them, your favorite ones growing up, and then we will play a game….Identify the Bird Singing!  And of course we will also do our brain exercises.  Get ready for a fun hour! The Memory Café Program is made possible through a grant from the Northern Waters Library System.

Nibbles N’ Knowledge: A Tale of Two Cranes @ Camp Jorn YMCA
Apr 6 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Nibbles N' Knowledge: A Tale of Two Cranes @ Camp Jorn YMCA | Manitowish Waters | Wisconsin | United States
The two crane species in North America, the Sandhill and Whooping Crane, are at opposite ends of the population spectrum. Back from the brink of extinction, the rare Whooping Crane is making a steady yet fragile comeback – recovering from a low of only 21 individuals in the wild in 1944, to just over 450 birds today. The Sandhill Crane population, however, has made a robust recovery over the past 50 years, and they now number in the tens of thousands in Wisconsin. Why the big difference? Join an interpretive naturalist from the International Crane Foundation to learn about the differences between these two species and how the innovative projects at the International Crane Foundation safeguard cranes and the amazing places that enrich our lands and our lives. An evening of delicious nibbles and expanding your knowledge. Cash bar and complimentary appetizers from 5-6pm, program from 6-7pm. Preregistration required by 4/4. Program held at Camp Jorn YMCA. 5-7pm $13 ($10 members). 1-877-543-2085, www.discoverycenter.net

Welcome to Dallas Brass 7:00 pm
Welcome to Dallas Brass @ Lakeland Union Highschool
Apr 20 @ 7:00 pm
.: WELCOME TO DALLAS BRASS :. Since its founding in 1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles.  The group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and musical challenges.  The Dallas Brass repertoire includes classical masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music. According to Mr. Levine, “a Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family.  Our ideal audience has a range in ages from 5 to 95.  Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music, while showing our audience how much we enjoy what we do.” In addition to their solo engagements, the Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide.  Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati Pops conducted by Erich Kunzel, New York Pops conducted by Skitch Henderson, and the Philly Pops conducted by Peter Nero.  The Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and has toured overseas to Europe and the Far East.  They have shared the stage with the late Bob Hope, have performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush, have appeared on the CBS “Early Show,” and their music has been used numerous times on the television show, “The Young & The Restless.” The ensemble has released six recordings:  Debut, Dallas Brass II, A Merry Christmas with Brass, Windborne, Nutcracker and American Musical Journey.  The Dallas Brass has a strong dedication to working with young musicians, frequently going into the public schools to present clinics and workshops for students of all ages. Come join them on an American Musical Journey, a program that incorporates a full complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through American history.  From the time of George Washington to the present day – music will be selected from the masters – Copland, Bernstein, Gershwin, Berlin, John Williams, Sousa; from bands like the Tijuana Brass and Chicago; and styles from Dixieland, swing, Broadway, folk, patriotic, pop, and even hip-hop! There is definitely “something for everybody”.
