ANNUAL NORTH LAKELAND SCHOOL 8th GRADE DINNER TO BE HELD FEB 2, 2018 The North Lakeland School Class of 2018 will present the annual 8th Grade Dinner  on Friday, Feb. 2 from 5-8 pm, in the Don Swanson commons at North Lakeland School. Dinner includes Baked Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, Cranberries, Salad, Vegetables, Dessert, Coffee/Milk/Water. Take-out is also available. Tickets may be purchased from a North Lakeland eighth grade student or at the school prior to or the night of the dinner: $25 / family, $8 / adult, $5 / child (age 5-14). The always-popular raffle baskets will also be for sale. All proceeds from the dinner event support the Class of 2018’s trip to Chicago. Snowshoe and hike by some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area at a time of year many seldom experience. Conditions can make this a strenuous outing. Pack a lunch, bring water, and dress appropriately for the conditions (including sturdy footwear/snow shoes). Limited registration open to members only.   A group of artists have come together to offer an free “open studio” to area artists, visitors and whoever loves being creative. The “studio” will be held at the Manitowish Waters Community Center on the first and third Tuesday each month from 10 – 3 (with exceptions for official town business and other regularly scheduled events).  This informal group welcomes all and provides a venue for people to share their creative energy. Each person should bring projects and supplies for art projects that they are want to work on or are wanting to start.  Participants MUST bring floor and table protection (tarp, drop cloth, plastic sheeting – anything that will totally protect the tables and floors).  Bring a lunch to stay for the whole day or stay for just a few hours. 2018 dates  January 2 and 16 February 6 and 20 March 6 and 20 April 3 and 17 May 1 and 15 June 5 and 19 July 3 and 24 August 7 and 21 September 4 and 18 October 2 and 16 November 6 and 20 December 4 and 18

Lee Walker’s Country Showcase Arrives in Manitowish Waters on February 10 A country music extravaganza featuring Lee Walker’s Country Showcase will bring a pre-Valentine’s Day celebration to the Manitowish Waters Community Center on Saturday, February 10, 2018. The fun begins at 8:05 pm, giving guests time to enjoy a dinner at one of the local dining establishments before enjoying the music and dancing at the Community Center until 11:05pm. Lee Walker is a vocalist, rhythm guitar player and national promoter with over 35 years in the country music industry. He has selected five phenomenal artists to perform with him in the Lee Walker Country Showcase on Saturday, February 10 in Manitowish Waters including Brent Clauson, Glenn Runnels, Kathy Ruenger, Bob Poels and Cody Clauson. The show will present a full mix of instruments and vocals covering country music from the 60’s though the 90’s, as well as a few current songs. Hors d’oeuvres and dessert will be served. A cash bar serving beer, wine and soda will be available. Only 150 tickets are being sold and may be purchased for $25 each at the Manitowish Waters Chamber of Commerce. Lee Walker’s Country Showcase is being presented by the Manitowish Waters Community Foundation with the help and support of local businesses and volunteers. Showcase proceeds stay in the community and are used to improve the quality of life through support and enhancement of cultural, educational and recreational activities. The Showcase artists are a diverse group that complement each other well. Brent Clauson will travel from Coloma, Wisconsin where he created The Clauson Family Music Show now at the Historic Barn Theatre. Brent sings and plays the steel guitar, piano, banjo and fiddle. Glenn Runnels is also a vocalist and fiddle player, but he adds mandolin and acoustic guitar to the mix. Glenn hails from Wisconsin Rapids and has a passion for country music. He is the house fiddle player for the International Steel Guitar Show in St. Louis, MO. Kathy Ruenger is an extremely talented and dynamic vocalist and bass guitar player that has performed in the Midwest for several years. She will be featured in her debut with the Showcase. Bob Poels began his professional career at the age of 15. As a drummer and gifted vocalist, his performances ranged from country, rock, jazz, blues, swing, big band and contemporary Christian. After placing first in the GMC Country Showdown Vocalist/Songwriting competition, he recorded a country CD at the Sound Emporium in Nashville, Tennessee. Finally, Cody Clauson is an exceptional entertainer playing lead guitar, tenor banjo, piano and fiddle. He is making his debut in the Showcase and is sure to delight. The area’s biggest ice fishing contest with prizes awarded in 8 categories, sponsored by the Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters Snowmobile Club. Ice fishing contest runs from 10:30am until 5:30pm, with more chances to win raffle prizes if you pre-register at Townline Sports or Lakeland True Value. Tent opens at 9:30am for registration. Opening ceremony begins at 10am. Ice fishing awards at 6pm. This family event has activities for all: kid’s games, free groomer rides, racing and photos with the “Famous Klements Racing Sausages” and live music. Food and refreshments are served in a 40’ x 40’ heated tent and raffle items including: ice auger, ice shack, generator, snowmobile and many more items. Stay for the event’s finale – spectacular fireworks over frozen Rest Lake. Dress accordingly, this event is held on Rest Lake just off of Rest Lake Park’s boat landing on Hwy W, 1/4 mile north of Manitowish Waters. Parking is available in the Rest Lake Parking Lot.

Come to the beautiful Discovery Center grounds to learn the basics of icefishing in the Wisconsin! Tackle is provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own. John Heusinkveld and Ryan Wahlgren will teach basic tackle set up and techniques such as jigging, shelters, tip ups, lure selection and more. We will then head out onto our own Statehouse Lake to try for panfish and Northern Pike. Dress as warmly as possible, especially winter boots, windproof outer garments and warm gloves or mittens. Participants must possess a valid WI DNR fishing license to attend. Space is limited. Advance registration is required by 02/15/2018.
