The I Heart Wisconsin trip was an 18-day paddle from the source of the Wisconsin River to the confluence with the Mississippi in October 2015. As a positive response to the state’s budget cuts to natural resources, Ruth Oppedahl decided to use her vacation exploring our state from north to south and meeting with conservation groups and citizens along the way to learn how they help protect our lands, waters and wildlife. She discovered a beautiful, wild river and wonderful people along the way. You can see a map and read her online journal at http://www.wisconservation.org/i-heart-wisconsin/. An evening of delicious nibbles and expanding your knowledge. Donation bar and complimentary appetizers and desserts from 5- 6pm, program from 6-7pm. Pre-register by 9/6.

Private Screening Movie Event @ Chippewa Retreat - White Oak Grill | Manitowish Waters | WI | United States
Producer, Patricia Lambrecht, (Lambrecht Family Foundation), Manitowish Waters philanthropist, supporter of Discovery Center and the Art League invites you to view the incredible new movie Dare To Be Wild, which has screened from China and Japan to Australia, Germany and UK, but will not screen in the US until next year. Be the first to see it right here in Northern Wisconsin before it is released nationwide. WHERE – Chippewa Retreat Resort WHEN – Sept 21 5pm – Welcome toast and hors d’ oeuvres (cash bar) 6pm – Sharp! Screening begins 7:50pm – Q&A with Irish Director and Writer – Vivienne DeCourcy   DARE TO BE WILD TRAILER DARE TO BE WILD MOVIE LINK Vimeo link: https://vimeo.com/185495448/9ec280e9b7   Dare to be Wild, a romantic adventure based on the true story Mary Reynolds, a modern-day heroine, and environmentalist Christy Collard, whose shared passion for the wild takes them from the green hills of Ireland, to arid Ethiopia, to London’s Chelsea Flower Show, as they reach for their dreams, one garden, on vast desert, at a time.   Dare to be Wild won an Audience Award for best narrative feature at Dublin International Film Festival and has been screened worldwide from China to Japan to Isreal to Germany to Brazil. It is to be distributed in the U.S. later this year.   “… Dare to be Wild is an irresistible love letter to nature, to nurture, to wildness. It inspired me and moved me to unexpected tears. I came home with an urge to sow things. Wild things.” – ROISIN INGLE, IRISH TIMES “A sumptuous film…” -THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH   Embedded in the film are simple solutions for taking back control of our own environment. For example, a typical lawn can’t support one bee, but a clover lawn can support a myriad of pollinators and no toxic downside for beehives. Imagine your clover lawn, then a hundred of them, then thousands: we create sanctuaries for our friends the bees, and become more aware of the importance of  “wild nature” in that little space we control ourselves – our own gardens.   This emotionally powerful film is capable of overcoming our feelings of powerlessness on climate change and gives us individual tools to act. From the audience response thus far, its clear the actions of the characters inside the film can inspire actions outside it.   “Let’s throw a lifeline to the wilderness.”
